Toyota Motor Corporation, a well-known Japanese automaker, is preparing to make a significant impact in the Indian market by developing a brand-new SUV. Toyota’s decision is part of a strategic plan to increase production capacity by establishing a third manufacturing plant in India. This upcoming SUV, often referred to as a “mini” version of the popular Land Cruiser model, will serve as the facility’s flagship product. Toyota intends to compete with strong contenders in India’s SUV segment, such as the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar, with this move.

Toyota’s New SUV will be a Game Changer in the Indian Market – Details

A New C-Segment SUV

This forthcoming C-segment SUV, codenamed “340D,” is set to fill the gap between Toyota’s current mid-size SUV, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Innova Hycross hybrid MPV. While the exact launch date remains uncertain, industry experts suggest that we may not see this “mini” Land Cruiser SUV until early 2026. Toyota is meticulously deliberating over the commencement of production for this specific SUV.

Moderate Sales Expectations

Toyota’s primary focus for this new model isn’t centered on achieving sky-high sales figures. Reports indicate that the company is working closely with suppliers to produce approximately 60,000 units of these SUVs at its third Indian plant. In the event that Toyota decides to introduce this product in the Indian market, it is likely to source parts from international markets for assembly. Expanding Production Capacity

Toyota’s decision to build a third plant in India is in response to rising demand for its vehicles, owing in part to its collaboration with Maruti Suzuki India Limited. In the country, models such as the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, New Glanza, and Innova Hycross hybrid have done exceptionally well. Toyota currently operates two manufacturing plants in India, with a total capacity of approximately 400,000 units. With the addition of this third plant, the overall capacity will be increased by approximately 120,000 units, with potential plans to expand it further to 200,000 units. Toyota aims to reach 500,000 units produced annually by the end of this decade.

Toyota’s Commitment to the Indian Market

Toyota’s strategic decision to establish a third manufacturing plant demonstrates the company’s commitment to the Indian market. While the company’s growth in Europe and North America is slowing, India offers promising opportunities for expansion. The new plant will be built on the same grounds where Toyota already has two plants in Bidadi, Karnataka.

Finally, Toyota’s upcoming SUV venture in India represents a significant step toward strengthening the company’s presence in the Indian automotive landscape. This new addition aims to challenge established SUV segment players and further cement Toyota’s position as a key player in the Indian automobile industry. Toyota’s future in India looks promising and exciting, thanks to the company’s commitment to increasing production capacity and its strategic focus on the Indian market.Source
