Tata Motors introduces the Nexon i-CNG, India’s first turbocharged SUV with a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powertrain option, setting a new benchmark. This innovative move was announced at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, where Tata displayed a variety of cutting-edge products and concepts.
Tata Nexon iCNG Engine
The Nexon i-CNG concept features the robust 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron engine, capable of generating 120 PS of maximum power and 170 Nm of peak torque when running on petrol. The transmission options for the turbo petrol Nexon include 5MT, 6MT, 6AMT, and 7DCA, providing versatility for different driving preferences.
Setting itself apart, the Nexon i-CNG is equipped with twin 30-litre CNG tanks, similar to other Tata CNG models like the Altroz and Punch. Noteworthy features of this innovative offering include leakage-proof materials, a micro switch, a single advanced Engine Control Unit (ECU), thermal incident protection, auto-switch functionality between fuels, direct start in CNG mode, leak detection, and a modular fuel filter.
However, embracing sustainability and advanced technology comes at a slight cost, with the Nexon i-CNG expected to be priced higher than its petrol counterparts. The incremental difference is estimated to be in the range of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh, adding a premium for the innovative turbo CNG powertrain.
Tata Nexon EV Facelift – Dark Option
Tata Motors doesn’t stop at redefining fuel options; they also introduce the Dark option for the facelifted Nexon EV, catering to enthusiasts who appreciate a sporty design in a darker shade. The Bharat Mobility Expo also witnesses the unveiling of the Safari #Dark Concept, joining Tata’s lineup of stylish and dynamic offerings.
