In a spectacular display of automotive prowess, Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki have etched their names in the annals of the Indian automotive industry by achieving their highest-ever unit sales in 2023.
Tata Motors Limited reported an impressive 5.53 lakh unit sales in the year, marking it their highest annual figure. The comprehensive sales report for Q3 FY 2023-24 showcases a resilient performance, with 2,34,981 vehicles finding homes across domestic and international markets. Notably, Tata’s foray into zero-emission vehicles resulted in a 21% growth, attributed to the successful launch of the Nexon EV facelift and the positive reception of the entry-level Tiago EV. Additionally, the CNG segment saw a substantial 214% growth compared to the same quarter in FY23.
Maruti Suzuki’s New Heights
On the other side of the spectrum, Maruti Suzuki accelerated to new heights, posting an astounding yearly tally of 20,66,219 units in CY2023. The SUV range played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone for the largest car producer in the country. Despite a slight dip in overall sales compared to the previous year, the compact range, including models like Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, and Swift, held its ground with a total of 45,741 units in December 2023.
The cumulative sales of Maruti Suzuki’s popular models, including Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, S-Cross, and XL6, stood at an impressive 45,957 units in the final month of 2023. This reflected a notable YoY sales increase of percent. The Eeco contributed 10,034 units to the domestic sales, contributing to 1,04,778 units in December.
Despite a slight dip in YoY numbers, Maruti Suzuki’s overall performance remained robust, with a cumulative figure of 1,37,551 units. This included both domestic and international sales, as well as the supply to Toyota and the Super Carry LCV’s numbers.
In the grand scheme of things, Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki have not just achieved sales figures but have set new industry benchmarks.
