Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has ushered in a new era with the unveiling of its Annual Integrated Report for FY2022-23, aptly titled ‘Maruti Suzuki 3.0’. From its humble beginnings of producing around 20,000 cars annually, the company has charted an extraordinary trajectory, now manufacturing nearly 2 million cars each year as of FY 2022-23. A journey that began with a modest number has blossomed into a global phenomenon, delighting over 27 million customers in the domestic market and spanning across 100 countries worldwide.
Undoubtedly the largest car producer in the country, MSIL’s export figures soared to an impressive 2.59 lakh units last year. With a trajectory that seems unstoppable, the demand for these vehicles shows no signs of abating. Projections indicate that export volumes are set to burgeon, with estimates ranging from 7.50 lakh to 8 lakh units by the fiscal year 2030-31. This unparalleled growth story is underpinned by the Maruti Suzuki 3.0 project, which encompasses the introduction of new models, pioneering technologies, emissions reduction, and expansion of production capacities.
Maruti Suzuki Upcoming Electric Cars
As we cast our gaze into the future, MSIL’s ambitions are nothing short of electrifying. By the fiscal year 2030-31, the company is committed to launching over 1.5 million electric vehicles (EVs), signaling a resolute commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The culmination of the Maruti Suzuki 3.0 vision will witness an impressive fleet of 28 vehicles within its domestic range, each embodying the brand’s signature blend of innovation and excellence. This aspiration is intertwined with the aim of producing more than four million vehicles annually, of which a noteworthy 15-20 percent will be Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), while hybrids will account for a million units within that remarkable total.
Maruti Suzuki eVX
An outstanding milestone in this electrifying journey is the Maruti Suzuki eVX, heralding the brand’s inaugural foray into the fully-electric vehicle segment in India. The eVX, unveiled with much anticipation at Auto Expo 2023, commands attention with its futuristic and daring design, setting it apart from its contemporaries in the Maruti Suzuki lineup. Crafted in collaboration with Suzuki Motor Corporation and its Indian subsidiary, this mid-size electric SUV presents a captivating silhouette measuring 4,300mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,600mm in height. The road presence of the eVX is enhanced by its substantial body-colored bumper housing the iconic Suzuki emblem, accompanied by an imposing silver skid plate.
Suzuki Hustler EV
The Suzuki Hustler, a name synonymous with compact efficiency, is poised to embark on an electrified journey in the Indian market. While specifics about the Hustler EV remain somewhat veiled, it is expected to inherit the powertrain from the Wagon-R EV prototype, a vehicle that has been undergoing rigorous testing by Maruti Suzuki since 2018. This compact electric offering is likely to incorporate a sub-30kWh battery pack, delivering an estimated range of nearly 250km on a single charge. With its compact dimensions and a design that draws inspiration from SUV aesthetics, the Hustler EV is poised to provide Indian consumers with a myriad of choices within the burgeoning affordable EV segment.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV
Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to electric mobility is further reinforced by the Wagon R EV, an electrified iteration of a beloved and familiar model. While the Wagon R EV initially encountered some challenges due to demand dynamics, it has persevered and continues to undergo comprehensive testing on Indian roads. A distinguishing feature of the Wagon R EV is its evolved design, distinct from its conventional gasoline counterpart. The front fascia is characterized by low-mounted headlamps and a redesigned bumper, visually signaling the absence of a traditional engine and the unique identity of an electric powertrain. The hallmark Suzuki logo adopts a distinct blue hue, symbolizing its electric nature. The side profile retains the Wagon R’s characteristic silhouette, while the rear showcases vertical tail lamps and a redesigned bumper, thus presenting a modern and forward-looking aesthetic.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx EV, a compact crossover SUV, stands as a testament to the brand’s relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence. While specifics regarding the Fronx EV remain under wraps, its design is expected to mirror the aesthetics of its conventional petrol-powered counterpart. A discerning eye might discern EV-specific touches, which set it apart in terms of visual identity. Inside the cabin, the Fronx EV is anticipated to offer a familiar yet refreshed experience, with minor alterations in elements such as the instrument console and upholstery. Expected to boast a range of equipment akin to the petrol version, including a head-up display, wireless charging, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a comprehensive 360-degree parking camera, the Fronx EV is poised to redefine the compact crossover segment.
Expanding the EV Lineup
Beyond the confirmed quartet of electric vehicles, Maruti Suzuki has an exciting roadmap that promises the addition of two more EVs to its burgeoning lineup. Although details regarding nomenclature and powertrain specifics remain undisclosed, these forthcoming models are set to be compact SUVs. As the appetite for compact SUVs continues to soar in the Indian market, these upcoming additions are positioned to meet the desires of consumers seeking a harmonious blend of style, efficiency, and environmental consciousness.
The Maruti Suzuki represents an embodiment of innovation, sustainability, and a relentless commitment to shaping the future of mobility. With a spectrum of electrified offerings poised to redefine the automotive landscape, Maruti Suzuki’s journey into the electric future is marked by bold strides and pioneering accomplishments.
