Home » Maruti Suzuki eVX Electric SUV Set to Debut by Year-End

The eVX prototype initially debuted at the 2023 Auto Expo, followed by an upgraded version showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. During the Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024, Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corp, emphasized the company’s dedication to launching its inaugural electric vehicle by the close of this year.

Suzuki confirmed, “The inaugural battery electric vehicle from Suzuki Global is set to roll out from Suzuki Motor Gujarat by year-end. Our plans include not only domestic sales in India but also exporting this model to Japan and European countries.” This announcement solidifies Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the electric vehicle (EV) sector, with the production-ready eVX slated to be manufactured at its Gujarat plant by the end of 2024.

Maruti Suzuki’s much-anticipated electric SUV

The eVX, Maruti Suzuki’s much-anticipated electric SUV, will join the increasingly competitive midsize electric SUV segment. The five-seater SUV is expected to face competition from rivals such as the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra XUV e8, Citroen eC3 Aircross, and Honda’s Elevate-based EV, all set to make their presence felt in the market in the coming months.

The eVX concept, initially unveiled nearly a year ago, showcased a sleek design with LED-treated headlamps and concept-inspired DRLs. The front fascia boasted a wide air intake, hinting at a modern and stylish appearance. The interior of the eVX was revealed at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, providing a glimpse into the tech-infused cabin.

The eVX Platform

Underpinning the eVX is the YY8 skateboard platform, derived from Toyota’s 27PL, offering a sturdy foundation for the electric SUV. Equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack, the eVX is anticipated to provide a competitive claimed range of around 550 km, addressing concerns about electric vehicle range anxiety. With a targeted starting price of approximately Rs. 15 lakh, Maruti Suzuki aims to position the eVX as an affordable yet technologically advanced electric SUV in the Indian market.

As the automotive industry witnesses a paradigm shift towards electric mobility, Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the EV segment with the eVX signifies a strategic move to cater to the evolving preferences of Indian consumers. With its expected debut by the end of 2024, the Maruti Suzuki eVX is poised to make a significant impact and contribute to the growing adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
