Skoda Kodiaq and Karoq SUV Vietnam:Skoda, the well-known European automobile manufacturer, has made its official debut in the Vietnamese automobile market with the introduction of two SUV models, the Kodiaq and Karoq. These SUVs are being imported into Vietnam as full imports, marking a significant step forward in Skoda’s expansion plans. The company’s vision is to become the country’s leading European carmaker.

The Karoq and Kodiaq models, which are now available in Vietnam, are manufactured at Skoda’s Kvasiny plant and take about six weeks to arrive on Vietnamese shores. As completely built-up models, they are subject to a 49% customs duty. The Karoq is priced between Rs 34-37 lakh, while the Kodiaq is priced between Rs 40-48 lakh (ex-showroom).

Skoda has ambitious goals for its presence in Vietnam, including the establishment of 30 sales outlets and exceeding 40,000 units in annual sales by 2030. Skoda intends to import the Octavia and Superb sedans, in addition to the Karoq and Kodiaq, in 2024. Furthermore, the company is planning to launch all-electric vehicles in the Vietnamese market by 2025, namely the Enyaq iV and Enyaq Coupe.

The possibility of local assembly in Vietnam is a significant consideration on Skoda’s agenda. The plan is to import a completely knocked-down version of the India-made Kushaq compact SUV from Skoda’s Pune plant. The assembly will take place on a newly built production line in Quang Ninh province. Skoda expects to be able to assemble up to 27,000 vehicles per year in Vietnam after 2027.

Martin Jahn, Skoda Auto’s Board Member for Sales and Marketing, expressed enthusiasm for engaging with the Vietnamese economy and welcoming new customers. He emphasized the benefits of collaborating with TC Group on production and sales. Skoda’s strategic goal is to open 30 dealerships in Vietnam by 2028, with annual sales exceeding 40,000 units expected beyond 2030. Skoda is optimistic about the growth opportunities presented by Vietnam, which has a market potential of less than 40 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants.
