Introduction
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automaker, is set to make its debut in the electric SUV market with the highly anticipated eVX. The eVX concept was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo, and recent sightings of the vehicle in testing indicate that it is getting closer to production. Several noteworthy spy shots have revealed details about the interior and range of this upcoming electric SUV.
Maruti Suzuki’s First Electric SUV
Interior Features and Design:
The most recent spy shots of the Maruti eVX reveal the interior, which features a modern and user-friendly dashboard design. The dual-screen setup is reminiscent of modern vehicles such as the Mahindra XUV700 and Kia Seltos facelift. The digital cluster and infotainment system are expected to be housed on the two 10-inch screens. The driver will be able to access vital information about the electric vehicle, such as range, battery status, regenerative braking details, and more, with this configuration.
The infotainment system will most likely have an updated user interface with enhanced features and improved performance. Other details seen in the spy shots, such as a shark fin antenna on the roof, a charging port on the left side fender, and a bulge under the ORVM, point to the inclusion of a 360-degree camera for enhanced safety and convenience. The integrated door handles into the sloping window line add to the SUV’s sleek appearance.
Exterior Features:
The Maruti eVX’s exterior design exudes rugged appeal, with chunky cladding, solid bonnet lines, and pronounced creases. Though the lights in the spy shots are hidden, the production version is expected to have LED headlamps and tail lamps, possibly with a connecting LED beam light. Although the alloy wheels appear simple in the test mule, the final model will most likely have a more EV-centric design to reduce air drag.
Platform and Range:
The eVX will be launched initially in India, and both the Maruti Suzuki and its Toyota counterpart will utilize a modified version of Toyota’s 40PL fully electric platform, also known as the 27PL codename. This platform is expected to serve as the foundation for these electric vehicles.
In terms of range, the eVX has a 60 kWh battery pack that provides an estimated range of up to 550 kilometers. With this range, it competes directly with other electric vehicles in the segment. The vehicle will also include electronic passenger seat adjustments, vertical AC vents, and a dual display setup with one screen dedicated to the instrument cluster and the other to the infotainment screen. The eVX will be the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle to include Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Expected Launch:
Maruti Suzuki plans to launch the eVX electric SUV in January 2025, hoping to make a significant impact in India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle market. The eVX has the potential to be a game changer for Maruti Suzuki in the EV space, thanks to its impressive range, modern design, and advanced features.
