Bharat NCAP disclosed its inaugural crash test outcome yesterday, with the Tata Harrier facelift emerging as the first car examined by the Indian safety crash test agency, securing a flawless five-star rating. Both the new Harrier and the Safari have previously undergone testing by Global NCAP, earning five stars from the Germany-based safety crash test agency.
While the recent crash test was conducted in India, the detailed scores and analysis are not yet available. B-NCAP officially affirmed that the Harrier achieved a 5-star rating in its evaluations. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari commended Tata Motors and shared a video where he presented the certificate to Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd.
A perfect five-star rating by the Tata Harrier and Safari in the Bharat NCAP crash tests
Nitin Gadkari Congratulates
Nitin Gadkari expressed his congratulations on social media, stating, “Congratulations to Tata Motors for this historic achievement! Presenting the first-ever Bharat – NCAP 5-star rating certification to the new Safari and Harrie
Upon receiving the certification, Mr. Shailesh Chandra conveyed his appreciation for Bharat-NCAP, emphasizing its significance in providing customers with an objective score to assess the safety aspects of various vehicles. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the government, regulatory bodies, and the automotive industry in achieving this milestone. Tata Motors, committed to vehicle safety, was honored to attain the maiden Bharat-NCAP certification with an exemplary 5-star rating for two of its vehicles.
The collective commitment
Tata Motors, as the first automaker to submit a car to Bharat NCAP for crash test ratings, has set a precedent for other manufacturers, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra, and Kia. This collective commitment from all carmakers and automotive brands operating in India highlights their support for Bharat NCAP, recognizing the cost-effectiveness of conducting vehicle tests within the country instead of abroad for Global NCAP crash tests.
Launched in August 2023, Bharat NCAP, initiated by the Central Government of India, aims to evaluate the safety of passenger cars sold in the country through rigorous crash tests. This program introduces standardized safety ratings to the Indian automotive market, leading to the discontinuation of Global NCAP’s “Safer Cars for India” initiative. In partnership with the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) in Pune, the Central Government ensures comprehensive safety evaluations for cars sold in India, safeguarding consumer interests.
The updated Tata Harrier, apart from its design enhancements and improved cabin layout, places significant emphasis on safety features. With standard six airbags and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) available in top-spec variants, the Harrier not only captivates with its aesthetics but also reassures with its advanced safety technologies. Retaining the reliable 2.0-litre 170 PS diesel engine, coupled with two transmission options – the 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic – the Harrier encompasses both performance and safety in its core offerings.
Tata Motors Sets the Benchmark
Tata Motors’ proactive approach in being the first automaker to submit its vehicle for Bharat NCAP crash test ratings sets a benchmark for other manufacturers. This initiative encourages a collective responsibility within the automotive industry to prioritize and elevate safety standards. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra, and Kia, among others, are expected to follow suit, reinforcing a culture of safety and consumer-centric values within the Indian automobile landscape.
The achievement of a perfect five-star rating by the Tata Harrier and Safari in the Bharat NCAP crash tests signals a pivotal moment in the pursuit of vehicle safety in India. Tata Motors’ unwavering commitment to excellence and safety not only sets a precedent but also reassures consumers of their paramount focus on delivering vehicles that prioritize safety without compromising on performance and design. Tata harrier and safari are highly regarded for their safety features and integrity.
